Middle School Track & Field Finals
The second and final day of middle school inter-school track & field took place on Tuesday May 14. It was another beautiful day at the National Sports Centre with a cool breeze blowing down the home straight.
Somersfield took our largest team since before the pandemic to the event, day 1 of which took place last week Monday May 6th. Inter-school track & field is first and foremost about participating, giving your best effort and having fun, and our students definitely did that this year.
The PHE team is incredibly proud of all our athletes. Many of them tried events they had never done before for inter-school, truly being risk-takers! The sportsmanship amongst the students and with other schools was admirable as they cheered each other on and mentally and emotionally cared for one another, it was a joy to see.
The hard work the students put in during PE lessons, on sports day and at lunchtime practices truly paid off as our students came home with 14 medals and numerous school records were broken!
The PE team would like to give a special shout out to M1 Oliver De Roulet and M3 Charlie Young who went the extra mile to practice discus and javelin at every opportunity they could. Their efforts resulted in a silver medal for Oliver and a bronze medal for Charlie. They really showed what is possible when you put the work in! Let them be an inspiration for all the students next year.
Thank you to all the parents who came to the NSC to support the students, as well as facilitating their children’s athletic endeavors outside of school. Thank you to all the teachers who helped with supervision over the two days. Thank you to the whole PE department, including Megan Troake and Amy Winstanley for preparing the athletes during their primary years. Thank you as well to the M4 students who helped coach and run events on sports day.
We look forward to building on this positive momentum for next year.
