Athletics
Health and physical wellbeing are an integral part of the holistic curriculum offered at Somersfield Academy. Our athletics programme, comprised of both physical education and competitive sports, teaches the benefits of exercise and the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle. Physical education is delivered throughout all divisions, with emphasis on strength training, general physical education, as well as nutrition and exercise to strengthen mental wellness. Competitive sports are offered throughout the year, with emphasis on teamwork, commitment, sportsmanship and personal growth. In line with Somersfield’s philosophy, our faculty and coaches are committed to supporting a students’ individual skill, whether a career athlete or participating in a sport for the first time.
The Lower Primary PE curriculum and afterschool sports clubs are aligned with the seasonal competitive Bermuda School Sports Federation (BSSF) calendar typically available to the Upper Primary students. If a talented Lower Primary student is identified in PE classes and has the sportsmanship as well as emotional and physical ability to outperform the Upper Primary student on a respective team, they may be invited to represent Somersfield at BSSF events.
For more information on sports offered per term, please see the below schedule or contact our Athletics Department.
