Somersfield Students Spell Their Way to Success
Wednesday, February 12 — Somersfield Academy students are proving that hard work and dedication can spell success! With the finals of the Bermuda Spelling Bee just around the corner, our talented young spellers are preparing to showcase their linguistic skills on the big stage.
The eastern region semi-finals, held on February 2 at CedarBridge Academy, saw impressive performances from Somersfield students. Representing Somersfield Academy at the Bermuda Spelling Bee Eastern Zone Semi-Finals were Conor Lim, Jared Arnante, Sophia Clingerman, and alternate Suzanne Prabis. Jared and Conor demonstrated remarkable spelling prowess, securing second and third place, respectively. Their achievements reflect not only their personal dedication but also Somersfield’s commitment to academic excellence and intellectual curiosity.
Participating in a spelling bee is more than just memorising words—it’s a test of perseverance, focus, and confidence. The competition challenges students to think critically under pressure, reinforcing key skills that will benefit them far beyond the finals. At Somersfield, we celebrate these opportunities as essential to fostering independent thinkers and socially conscious learners.
Guiding and supporting the team throughout their journey has been their dedicated coach, Ms. Franklin. Her encouragement and expertise have played a pivotal role in preparing the students for this challenging competition.
As Jared and Conor prepare for the finals on March 8, the Somersfield community stands proudly behind them. Their journey exemplifies the spirit of determination and achievement that we strive to cultivate in all our students. No matter the outcome, their hard work and dedication have already made them champions in our eyes.
We wish Jared and Conor the best of luck in the upcoming finals—keep spelling, keep striving, and most importantly, enjoy the experience!
