Somersfield Stays Undefeated with Victory Over Dellwood
Somersfield Academy kept their winning streak alive with a 29-17 victory over Dellwood. Austin Murphy led early, scoring the first three baskets, while Jase Davis finished with 15 points. Strong defence from Maikel DelaCruz, Jack Bull, Mathis Stevens, & John Fontanetta secured the win.

Jared Arnante ‘31 Wins Inaugural Bermuda Spelling Bee
Somersfield Academy’s Jared Arnante, 10, won the inaugural Bermuda Spelling Bee. Competing against top spellers, he prevailed after 20+ rounds, tackling words like “mnemonic” & “lugubrious.” Fellow Somersfield student Conor Lim also competed. A proud moment for Somersfield!

Somersfield Primary Interschool Cross Country Team Shines at Flora Duffy National Stadium
The Somersfield Primary Interschool Cross Country Team competed against other primary schools at the Flora Duffy National Stadium. The races began on the stadium track, continued across the road and around the Arboretum, and concluded back on the track in front of the grandstands.-

Sharks Show Grit in Hard-Fought Battle Against Whitney
The Sharks fell 21-11 to a strong Whitney squad, despite a close 10-8 first half. Proud of the team’s grit, especially the M1s stepping up with key players missing. Freida Valli (M1) & Emily Paulos (M3) led with 4 pts each, Kate Pursell (M2) hit our first 3, & Cali Greenridge (M2) dominated the boards.

The Montessori Approach to Physical Education
One of the core philosophical tenets of Maria Montessori’s education for children was her understanding of the need and importance for movement to perfect their coordination of both large and refined movements. In PE, the overall objective is to provide students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to make active living a way of life. Cooperation, fair play, sportsmanship, teamwork, communication and respect are emphasised at all times.

Middle School Boys' Basketball Dominates Whitney 27-6 with Stellar Team Effort
Coaches Tommy Johnson and Scott Roy praised the team for their outstanding leadership and defensive performance in a 27-6 victory over Whitney. The team’s strong defence kept Whitney to under 10 points, showcasing excellent teamwork and effort. It was a fantastic win for the Sharks!

The Fifth Great Lesson: The Story of Numbers begins with the earliest civilisations, who often only had “one”, “two”, and “more than two” as their numeric system. It continues with a look at different numbering systems throughout the centuries, culminating in the decimal system that we use today.

The Fourth Great Lesson: The Story of Writing
The Fourth Lesson, the story of the development of the written alphabet is told, with an emphasis on the incredible ability that humans have of committing their thoughts to paper. Included in the story are pictographs, symbols, hieroglyphs, early alphabets, and the invention of the printing press.
