Somersfield Primary Girls Football Team Come Fourth in Thrilling 7-a-Side Finals

November 6, 2024 — Some of our Primary Girl Football players competed in the Finals of the 7-a-side tournament on Wednesday, November 6, at Shelly Bay Field. It was a beautiful day, though our girls felt a bit nervous heading into their first game.

The girls started strong, winning their first game against Harrington Sound with a 2-0 victory. Our goal scorers were Eva Desjardins, who scored from a penalty, and Molly Morton.

In their second game, they faced BHS, where they were unfortunately defeated 4-0. However, this was a valuable learning experience in mental toughness for our team. In the third game, they played West End, which ended in a 0-0 draw. With their earlier win and draw, the girls advanced to the next round.

In the next match against Warwick Academy, they lost narrowly, 1-0. They then competed for 3rd and 4th place, facing St. George’s Prep. We began strong, with a beautiful goal from Molly Morton that put us up 1-0. Our girls played aggressively, pursuing every ball, but St. George’s Prep responded with two goals, leading to a final score of 2-1 in their favor.

Our girls ultimately finished in 4th place, which is a fantastic achievement among all primary schools in Bermuda. Many of our players are new to football and bravely stepped out of their comfort zones to compete.

Thanks again to Coach Rychus from the Leo Burgess Football Academy for his coaching expertise!  The girls have come a long way under his guidance, and they all look up to him for his football expertise and kind nature with our players.

They looked fantastic in their new Somersfield Primary Girls Football uniforms, generously donated by the Desjardins family. The team loved representing Somersfield in style!

Please congratulate our girls when you see them!
