Somersfield Academy Students Shine in Shakespeare Workshop
February 17, 2014 — Somersfield Academy students recently embraced a dynamic approach to theatre, participating in the annual Bermuda Shakespeare Schools Festival (BSSF) workshops led by Steve Kirkham of Frantic Assembly, an award-winning UK theatre group. Known for integrating movement into storytelling, Frantic Assembly introduced students to innovative techniques that emphasise physical expression alongside dialogue.
The sessions aimed to inspire students to think beyond traditional theatre, exploring how body language and movement can enhance performance. Somersfield student Yassine Chentouf, 11, said he gained valuable insights into using his body effectively in acting, a skill that will undoubtedly enrich his future performances.
Somersfield students Mackenzie Paul, 12, and Victoria Mello, 12, also participated, demonstrating their enthusiasm and creativity during the workshops. This opportunity reflects Somersfield's dedication to fostering intellectual curiosity and artistic growth, aligning with its mission to inspire independent, socially conscious thinkers.
Frantic Assembly’s workshops were a unique addition to the BSSF, highlighting the festival’s commitment to providing young Bermudian talent with exposure to professional theatre. Through engaging activities, students not only built their theatrical skills but also gained confidence and tools for future performances.
Somersfield Academy's involvement in such enriching experiences underscores its vision of preparing learners to succeed with confidence and compassion while exploring their unique potential.
